Transition to InfoEd Budget Development

As part of ongoing modernization efforts, SPA will develop budgets for a subset of grant and contract proposal submissions in NIU’s InfoEd proposal development and tracking software system starting in July 2022. Currently, budgets for all sponsored programs are developed outside of the InfoEd system via Excel spreadsheets.

This change is being made to streamline sponsored program budgeting practices and to record budget data required for additional modernization enhancements, including direct submission of federal proposals from within InfoEd and implementation of the InfoEd award and financial management module.

The transition to budget development in InfoEd will be a phased rollout. For the initial stage, all new and revised proposals for the below sponsor types will be developed in InfoEd.

  • Industry
  • Non-Profit
  • Federal – research only

Exceptions may apply on a case-by-case basis depending on sponsor requirements and budget complexity.

Budgets for new and revised proposals for Federal non research (e.g., Department of State and Department of Education) and all State of Illinois programs will not transition at this time.

The transition to InfoEd budget development will change the location and appearance of sponsored program budgets for proposal review and award management purposes. Guidance documents to assist campus in navigating the changes will be available via the RIPS eRA website prior to initiation of InfoEd budget development.
